Wild Splendors of California

Lalo Fiorelli

Wild Splendors of California is the result of photographer Lalo Fiorelli’s many year love affair with California’s wild places, and his desire to share the beauty he found. These images of natural history environments within California show the great biological and geological diversity of the state.

This photographic essay tours the state from south to north, from the underwater canyons of the Carmel Trench to the volcanic peaks of the southern Cascades. Presented here are images from underwater in the intertidal zone, coastal redwood rain forests, deserts, alpine forests, the mighty Sierra Nevada running along the spine of the state, national wildlife refuges that protect the Pacific Flyway, and Mount Shasta.

The photographs represent a body of work collected over many years and in a variety of seasonal and climatic conditions. Mr Fiorelli shares his personal experiences while taking these photographs in a lively and anecdotal text that complements the images.

You may have seen the book at the Monterey Bay Aquarium or the California Academy of Sciences where it was a bestseller.
